Mastercard casinos — and the two rules that catch people out
Mastercard behaves almost identically to Visa at a casino cashier, with two exceptions worth knowing before you deposit: what your issuer does with a gambling transaction, and what happens on the way back out. Each operator below states the licence we verified for it, and where we could not verify one we say so.

Credit cards are not an option in Great Britain
Since April 2020 licensed operators serving Great Britain have been prohibited from accepting credit cards for gambling. A Mastercard deposit there must be a debit card, and a credit card will be declined at the cashier rather than at your bank.
That rule is a consumer protection rather than an inconvenience: it exists to stop people gambling with borrowed money, which is the single behaviour most associated with serious harm. If you find an operator accepting a credit card from a GB customer, that tells you something about the operator.
The coding that gets a deposit declined
Gambling transactions carry their own merchant category code, and many issuers act on it independently of the operator, blocking the transaction outright or treating it as a cash advance with a fee and interest from day one. A declined deposit is far more often your bank's policy than the casino's.
Most UK banks also offer a free gambling block you can switch on yourself, and the good implementations require a cooling-off delay before it can be lifted. If you want a hard limit that no operator can talk you out of, that is where it lives.
Getting paid back to the card
Withdrawals normally return to the card you deposited from, up to the amount you deposited. That closed-loop rule follows from anti-money-laundering obligations rather than obstruction. Anything above that usually needs a second method, so it is worth having one verified before you need it.
The refund then moves on the card networks rather than the casino's systems, which adds days after the operator has genuinely released the money. The verified payout time on each row is measured to the money arriving, not to the operator pressing approve.
Frequently asked
Can I use a Mastercard credit card at a UK casino?
No. Licensed operators serving Great Britain have been barred from accepting credit cards for gambling since April 2020. Debit cards only.
Why did my Mastercard casino deposit fail?
Most often your card issuer, not the casino. Gambling transactions carry a distinct merchant category code and many banks block or surcharge them, or you may have a gambling block active on the account.
How long does a Mastercard casino withdrawal take?
The operator's own processing window first, then card-network settlement of typically one to three days on top. The payout figure on each row is measured to arrival rather than to approval.
